Post-Op Instructions

Pensacola, FL Endodontist

  1. Most patients have varying degrees of discomfort following root canal treatment. Due to
the disease originally present and the treatment performed, soreness may be present for up to 14 days. This soreness should decrease with time. It can be relieved by anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, as long as you have no allergies or restrictions. If using ibuprofen, we recommend 600-800mg every 6 hours. If necessary, Tylenol can be added in between doses of ibuprofen at 650mg every 6 hours.
  2. You may eat foods that are comfortable to chew, but we encourage chewing on the side
opposite this tooth. Avoid hard foods because this may damage the temporary restoration or remaining tooth structure.
  3. You may brush your treated tooth as you normally would.
  4. DO NOT apply heat to your face.
  5. The temporary filling will wear down and feel rough. This will be replaced with a
permanent restoration by your general dentist, ideally within 3 weeks of having the root canal done.
  6. Call your general dentist immediately and schedule an appointment to have the treated
    tooth restored.
  7. REMEMBER, PROPER RESTORATION OF YOUR TREATED TOOTH IS ESSENTIAL
TO THE SUCCESS OF YOUR ROOT CANAL TREATMENT!
